Realization

The owners of RH Iron have extensive experience managing the production of over one 100+ custom wrought iron jobs at a time. One thing that they eventually noticed when it came to fencing and railing was that over 95% of the time, an order that called for ‘Custom Fencing’ was, in fact, basic pool or perimeter fencing with small modifications. Touches such as a knuckle pattern added to some of the pickets or a different type of post cap or even a window band at the top with scrolls. Over time, as they refined the fabrication process, they were able to establish a very effective base price model for fencing and then calculate the cost of ad-ons such as those mentioned above.

Test

The next step RH Iron took was to test their pricing model. Could they effectively handle their ‘Custom’ customers using a very standardized style of fence and rail? They began quoting jobs and selling them based on the fact that the had ready access to an in-stock supply of fence and rail panels. Here is what they discovered:

They were able to reduce their turn around times by 50% or better.
Not surprisingly, they were able to close more jobs because they could promise an install date in half the time of their competition.
Additionally, they were able to charge a premium on jobs that demanded a turn-around time that would have been out of reach for them before they started using this system.
They were able to book more appointments and sell more jobs because they weren’t stuck in the shop fabricating fence and railing panels

16 gauge material (bury set posts are 11 gauge)
Pressed steel post caps (No plastic plugs that will allow water to seep and rust the fencing from the inside out!)
